Love, Muscle Cars, and Memories Collide in Nostalgic Tale

Posted on October 30, 2014 by Bobby Bernshausen | 0 Comments

Jason Ruder’s life is about to change forever as he learns the truth about the old muscle car in the shed.  Join Jason as he discovers the muscle car era in the new novel Metal Horses by Ron Ames.

Jason enters the muscle car era through the stories of his reclusive neighbor as she recounts the time of bell-bottoms, draft cards, and the music of the early 70s. She describes the antics of a crazy group of friends with such emotion that Jason can actually feel the insanity of street racing, and the tension caused by the Vietnam War. A misguided romance on which an Amish man and a disillusioned war veteran give their advice, adds to the calamity as the recluse fulfills a vow made long ago, and answers the question, "Do you really know who you are?"

Through humor and tragedy, Metal Horses tells a tale of civil disobedience and misguided romance in a small Pennsylvania town during the muscle car era.

Ron Allen Ames' Metal Horses is set in the last years of the muscle car era. To those who were of age during that time, this book stirs memories of crazy things that happened with cars, stunts pulled with friends, the turmoil caused by the war, and how elusive love can be. Ames also wrote the WWII novel, Vessels of the Strand.

Metal Horses is available in softcover (ISBN 978-1-62137-477-0) and eBook (ISBN 978-1-62137-528-9) from Virtualbookworm.com, Amazon.com, and Barnesandnoble.com. When Challenge Becomes Inspiration

Posted on October 09, 2014 by Bobby Bernshausen | 0 Comments

What should you do when your home away from home is threatened? When loved ones around you feel helpless? You rise to the challenge and find a solution. Author Matt Shea is back in a new novel featuring Chase Mansfield in The Meadowdale Community Project.

Demolition crews continue to raze abandoned and condemned structures in the sleepy town of Meadowdale – a city hit hard by the sluggish economy. A once-cherished building is now the dilapidated Meadowdale Community Center (MCC), where the handicapped and mentally-challenged sort recyclable materials and create artwork from refuse that catches their eye. This prompts many to consider the MCC a burial ground for lost causes.

Things soon change when a mysterious stranger in a wheelchair arrives and befriends Chase Mansfield, an intellectually-challenged teen. When the Community Center is condemned and Chase realizes the squirrel he feeds is about to become homeless, he comes up with an ingenious idea that changes his future and the future of the community. Chase and his invention soon unite the entire city, breaking down barriers related to wealth, politics, age, mobility, and intellect.

In an age of fiction often based on witchcraft, libido, and immorality, The Meadowdale Community Project is a family-friendly story for all ages, tastes, and background.

Matt Shea is a developing author having published five books. He is greatly inspired by the writings of Andy Griffith and focuses on the common folk that comprise small towns. Matt appreciates all who take the time to read his stories, loves feedback, and offers his email address for any comments or suggestions readers have. Matt promises to do his very best to answer all who write him, since his goal is to reach out to his audience and improve as a writer and a person.

Philosophical Essay on Soul’s Existence Beyond Physical Dimensions

Posted on October 09, 2014 by Bobby Bernshausen | 0 Comments

If there is any debate that has continued through time, it centers on the existence of the soul. Richard Schain not only advocates for the existence of the soul in his book, Toward an Existential Philosophy of the Soul, but its existence within the confines of a different dimension of reality than the physical brain and body.

Toward an Existential Philosophy of the Soul defends the reality of the human soul. Schain analyzes these topics from historical viewpoints considering the nature of the soul, the spectrum of 'scientism,' consciousness and the brain, creativity, death, and the mutual interrelationships of God and soul. Schain defends that one's soul, considered to be the central feature of the human condition, exists within a different dimension of reality than does the physical brain with its millions of spiritless nerve cells. However, the influence of scientism has resulted in a denial of the reality of spiritual entities. Contemporary man has been losing his soul because contemporary monistic science will not recognize a metaphysical soul. This book considers the profound consequences of loss of belief in the reality of the human soul that have been occasioned by contemporary 'scientism.’

Richard Schain obtained B.A. (philosophy) and M.D. degrees from New York University. He trained in neurology at Yale University, later serving as professor of neurology and psychiatry at UCLA. All Schain's writings deal with the metaphysics and significance of the interior self (the soul). The writings of Friedrich Nietzche and Nicholas Berdyaev have been major influences upon the development of his thought. Currently, the philosopher divides his time between Alamos, Mexico, and Sonoita, Arizona, with his wife, Melanie Dreisbach.

Toward an Existential Philosophy of the Soul is available in softcover (ISBN 978-1-62137-599-9) and eBook (ISBN 978-1-62137-600-2) from Virtualbookworm.com, Amazon.com, and Barnesandnoble.com. Does Good or Evil Matter When a Family is Cursed?

Posted on October 09, 2014 by Bobby Bernshausen | 0 Comments

The dividing line between good and evil is never as clear as people would hope. R.J. King’s novel, Deliverance Comes, reveals this through the story of Nathaniel Ross and the tragic ends that befall his family.

Set in North Carolina, the novel follows Nathaniel from the time he is a young boy stuck in a home with an abusive father to when he is an adult who has strayed from his morals. The readers will learn to sympathize with the young boy and his troubling home as it becomes more and more abusive. As an adult, Nathaniel appears to have made a better life for himself with a wife and job, but looks can be deceiving. Nathaniel feels trapped, yet again, inside his marriage with a wife he does not love and is considering a horrible act to rid her from his life. Though there are several horrendous acts of violence committed, there is never a clear and shallow line between those who are good and those who are evil. Some families are seemingly cursed, and the Ross family appears to be one of those.

R.J. King was born and raised in North Carolina where this novel takes place. He no longer lives in the state, but majored in English at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro. King loves writing and telling stories, and one of his central goals is to one day have a successful career doing so.

Deliverance Comes is available in softcover (ISBN 978‐1‐62137‐331‐5) and eBook (ISBN 978‐1‐62137‐358‐2) from Virtualbookworm.com, Amazon.com, and Barnesandnoble.com. Wanderlust Proves to be Troublesome in 19th Century Rural Arkansas

Posted on October 09, 2014 by Bobby Bernshausen | 0 Comments

Life on the farm is far too disenchanting for the two brothers eager to see the world, regardless of the risks, in J.F. Gennings’ new novel, For Bread and Pottage.

Clyde and Willie Boy Gintry live and work on their father’s farm in nineteenth century Arkansas, but long for adventure and escape from their father’s iron hand. Already spending most of their free time in saloons, they encounter an illustrious saloon woman named Rose Devereaux who lures them away from their safe keeping on the farm and to her hometown of New Orleans.

With the promise of adventure and newness on the horizon, the brothers jump at the chance to leave behind their family and farm life for New Orleans, setting a string of events into motion that will prove to be life-altering, dangerous, and impossible to stop.

J.F. Gennings is from a small, East Texas town of Atlanta, where he lives and writes joined by his wife of forty-three years, his son, daughter-in-law, and two wonderful grandchildren. He is the third generation of post-Civil War Georgia pioneers, who were homesteaders in 1872. He loves the history of his native area, is passionate about his writing, and loves his family...especially those grandchildren. This story, although fictional, has strong ties to his own ancestry and has been eight years in the making.

For Bread and Pottage is available in hardcover (ISBN 978-1-62137-590-6) and eBook (ISBN 978-1-62137-591-3) from Virtualbookworm.com, Amazon.com, and Barnesandnoble.com.
