ABOUT THE AUTHOR William Ferrell Smith was born in Gallatin, Tennessee in 1964. He moved to Murfreesboro, Tennessee in 1983 and attended Middle Tennessee State University, graduating with honors in 1987, earning degrees in psychology and political science. Ferrell operated a state-licensed adoption agency from 1989 to 1992, before leaving to serve as CEO over a small chain of computer stores. While working in the filed of technology, he wrote and produced several successful "how to" films about computers, networking and web development. Dark Ascension is Ferrell's first novel. He has been an avid science fiction and fantasy fan for over twenty-five years, and counts Piers Anthony and Jack L. Chalker among his favorite authors. Ferrell was hard at work on his second fiction novel, tentatively titled Shadows of Perfection,when this work reached publication. The expected completion date is sometime in 2005.
