They moved to China in August 2000 hoping to escape the hectic lifestyle of living in San Francisco and allow their adopted Chinese daughter an opportunity to learn the language and culture of her birth country. This book chronicles their life and provides an intimate look into what it is like to live in China as an American family. It reveals how it affected the building of an identity for their Chinese-American daughter. The author writes about the numerous friends they made among the Chinese people from Glenn, their housekeeper, to the couple who sold tofu in the market. She describes shopping at the local market, ordering in local restaurants, and describes how the local Chinese live and work. This book describes their life, full of curiosities and adventures. After reading the book you may be inspired to try your own adventure. ABOUT THE AUTHOR The author is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in Occupational Therapy. She retired in 1998 as the Director of Industrial Medicine at Oroville Hospital in California. She currently lives in Florida with her daughter and husband. She is active in her child's school as a volunteer and on the Board of Trustees for the school. As a family they are active in the local chapter of Families with Children from China and have arranged for their daughter to continue learning Mandarin with a private teacher. They plan to return to Xiamen, China each year to maintain relationships with friends there and continue to foster a strong sense of Chinese identity in their daughter. They are currently in the process of adopting another daughter from the Ukraine and look forward to the new adventures that lie ahead. Login to review this product
