In the spring of 1818, Cecilia Fanshaw goes to London to stay with her aunt, uncle, and cousin, Baxter. Her aunt has generously agreed to give her a season. There, she meets Baxter's new friend, David Falconbridge. Although she is somewhat disturbed by his seriousness, she is also strangely intrigued.
Initially, Falconbridge has an ulterior motive for befriending Baxter. His grandfather, Lord Langford, was responsible for ruining Falconbridge's family and Falconbridge plots revenge.
While Cecilia is caught up in the excitement of a come-out ball, meeting a stunning young viscount, and going to Vauxhall Gardens, Baxter discovers Falconbridge's plan, and vows to help.
Will her aunt succeed in finding her a wealthy, titled husband, or will Cecilia only settle for true love?
Will a few 'ghostly' visits and abandonment in a graveyard convince Langford to confess his villainy or is he past redemption?
