"The wind blew just a little bit too strong in our part of the Southwest. The sand just couldn't hold itself down and it tried to blow away completely. Times were not good for a West Texas farmer, especially one owing the bank…."

Thus a little boy with a Dennis the Menace grin, and a habit of getting into trouble, tells the story of his first seventeen years. Born on a sandy farm in West Texas, his homeland began blowing away just as his family was falling apart. After the sand, he tells us of his time spent on a black land farm and his life in small towns in North Texas. He describes his world as it was in the thirties and forties - first surrounded by a large and loving family, and later left in a world of women when the men all went away to war. His life story unfolds in a series of adventures and everyday happenings, told in a candid and humorous manner that may make you chuckle, and may make you wipe away a tear. These are real people, their lives sometimes exciting and sometimes routine - but never boring!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Charley Gravley is a retired salesman, who started taping his life's events while traveling the long distances between Dallas and towns such as Amarillo, and Lubbock, New Orleans, Oklahoma City, and more stops in New Mexico, Kansas and Louisiana. It all started as something to pass the time other than counting the no-passing strips on the highway! When he began putting his verbal life down on paper he realized that he had done many things his children and grandchildren would never do. This book was compiled over a thirty-year period, but of course, not continuous writing. Mr. Gravley is retired now and says he is interested to continuing his autobiography if anybody is interested in reading it!
