ABOUT THE AUTHOR
While growing up on Chicago's south side the author, Michael Adams, was deeply influenced by the men in his neighborhood who taught him a variety of life skills; hitting a fast ball, setting a rafter beam, hooking a bass, plumbing a door frame and tracking a deer—to name a few. As good and as necessary these skills were for a man, the greatest gift these male instructors offered, according to Mr. Adams, was that of story—stories of shared personal experiences when immigrating to Chicago, in surviving the Depression, while fighting in the Pacific and European theaters. Their stories of returning from the war were also one's of self-sacrifice; working honestly and diligently in their chosen professions, protecting and honoring their wives and providing opportunities for educational and spiritual advancement to their children.
Their life example and their stories inspired Mr. Adams as a youth to seek a means of creating his own life narrative through wilderness trekking, by exploring the western U.S. via freight train and hitch-hiking, by sailing the Great Lakes as a merchant marine and through serving destitute people in South Asia as a missionary. Mr. Adams's greatest joy in manhood came when he combined his story with that of a loving, caring wife who, as he notes, is an adventurer in her own right. He also finds gratification in assisting his son with the process of becoming a virtuous man.
Today, Mr. Adams is a certified prosthetist specializing in amputee rehabilitation. He enjoys writing young adult fictional adventure stories in his spare time. He resides in southwest Ohio with his wife, Sharon and their teenage son, Drew.
