lear wording and abundant diagrams give instructions for making over 40 gadgets, gizmos, interesting mechanical devices and simple, hands-on construction projects. The diagrams assist in ease of understanding. A high priority is given to being able to complete each project without special tools and materials. The cost of each project is low. All projects are make-it-yourself without having to buy kits. Only low-cost and no-cost materials are needed. Most items are made from such things as small pieces of wooden boards, coat hanger wire, paper, used contrainers, discarded household items and common items found in most hardware stores. Most of the projects require one or two common tools such as a scissors or hacksaw.

MakeThis will add to your appreciation and wonder about structural and mechanical curiosities. MakeThis is a rich resource for the tinkerer. It is an aid to anyone who wants to develop ingenuity to use the tools and materials that happen to be available.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Alan Detwiler grew up on a farm. Day to day life on a small farm gives insight into the natural world, science and how things work. Accomplishing the tasks necessary for carrying on the operations of a farm often involve ingenuity in fixing out of order equipment or fashioning a make-do device to serve some need. A greater than average awareness and appreciation of mechanical devices results. Alan often built simple gadgets and gizmos for the fun of it or to test whether an idea for a project would work. Life on a farm also teaches the importance of science and inter-relationships in the natural world and in our personal lives. His appreciation and interest in science led to reading of just about anything and everything he could find having to do with scientific principles and what makes the world the way it is. He came to believe that nothing contributed more to ones enjoyment of life than learning about the world and appreciating the beauty and complexity of all that is around us.

In keeping with his high regard for reality based entertainment, Alan started Slickditty Software in 1996. That company produces content that encourages appreciation and wonder for the world and the great opportunities it presents to us. He invites everyone to check out the company's web site at www.leisureideas.com
