Tjaakje Heidema’s memoir is much more than a delightful collection of events and characters from her snow-birding life in Maine and Arizona. She shows great humor and wit but also great heartache and disillusionment as she writes about breast cancer, forced retirement and end of life issues. Most of all, she shares her immense and insightful perception of human nature. Her stories, and especially some of her poems, ache with beauty and longing.
As in her first book, “Sweeping Away the Sand,” Ms. Heidema shares with vulnerability and finds that which is universal in her journey. The reader will undoubtedly find her/himself in her stories.
